Terms of Service — theid.dev

Before the full terms, here is the essence:

theid.dev gives you a public subdomain (yourname.theid.dev), a professional mailbox, and storage space.
You are responsible for what you publish or host under your subdomain.
Any illegal activity leads to immediate suspension, without refund.
We may monitor public subdomains to detect abuse.
Your drive storage is private; your subdomain is public and visible to anyone.
You can report abuse to abuse@theid.dev.

Article 1 — Purpose and scope

These Terms of Service (the "Terms") govern access to and use of the theid.dev service, operated by Nathan GNANKADJA, an independent individual developer based in Benin (the "Operator"), and accessible at theid.dev.

By subscribing to a theid.dev plan and checking the acceptance box at sign-up, the user (the "User") acknowledges having read, understood and accepted these Terms without reservation.

theid.dev is a standalone personal project. It is not affiliated with, nor a sub-offering of, any other company or platform.

Article 2 — Service description

theid.dev is a developer identity service that provides the User with:

A personalized subdomain on theid.dev (e.g. yourname.theid.dev)
One or more professional mailboxes depending on the subscribed plan
A storage space (drive) shared with the mailbox
A public profile page (theid.dev/@yourname)
A DNS management dashboard (Pro and Team plans)
Optional automated profile setup from your public GitHub data, using a third-party AI provider (see the Privacy Policy)
Privacy-friendly usage analytics on active subdomains

The service is hosted on Cloudflare, Poste.io, and self-hosted MinIO infrastructure. Profile generation relies on a third-party AI inference provider (currently Groq); the specific provider and underlying model may change over time. See the Privacy Policy for details on data processing.

Article 3 — Eligibility and access

To subscribe to theid.dev, the User must:

Be at least 18 years old, or have the authorization of a legal guardian
Provide a valid payment method (see Article 4)
Accept these Terms at sign-up
Choose a subdomain name that complies with the rules in Article 5

Article 4 — Pricing and payment

theid.dev plans are billed annually at the rates published on theid.dev at the time of subscription. Prices are set in US dollars (USD); a local currency may be displayed for convenience based on the visitor's location, but billing remains in USD.

4.1 Accepted payment methods

Available payment methods depend on the User's country and may include:

Mobile Money (where available)

4.2 Renewal

Plans are subscribed for a period of one (1) year. The User is notified by email 30 days before expiry. Without renewal, the subdomain and associated services are suspended on the expiry date.

4.3 Refunds

No refund is granted once payment is made. No refund is granted after subdomain activation, nor in case of suspension for breach of these Terms.

Article 5 — Subdomain naming rules

The User agrees to choose a subdomain name that:

Does not reproduce a registered trademark or third-party trade name without authorization
Does not contain insulting, discriminatory, or misleading terms
Does not attempt to impersonate an official or governmental service
Is composed only of letters, digits, and hyphens (standard DNS format)

theid.dev reserves the right to refuse or release a subdomain deemed inappropriate, without obligation to justify and without refund.

Article 6 — Prohibited uses

It is strictly forbidden to use theid.dev for the following activities:

6.1 Illegal content

Distributing, storing, or selling copyrighted content without authorization
Hosting or distributing child sexual abuse material
Inciting hatred, discrimination, or violence
Content glorifying terrorism or war crimes

6.2 Fraudulent activities

Phishing, identity theft, or imitation of legitimate sites
Distributing malware, viruses, or ransomware
Scams, fraud, or sale of counterfeit goods
Collecting personal data without consent

6.3 Spam and technical abuse

Sending unsolicited messages (spam) from theid.dev mailboxes
Using the service for DDoS attacks or any form of intrusion
Circumventing the technical limits of the subscribed plan

6.4 Illicit commercial activities

Selling illicit substances, weapons, or prohibited goods
Unauthorized gambling services
Financial pyramids or Ponzi schemes

Article 7 — Monitoring, reporting, and sanctions

7.1 Monitoring of public subdomains

Subdomains (yourname.theid.dev) are public and accessible to anyone. theid.dev reserves the right to monitor public subdomains to detect any breach of these Terms. Private drive storage is not actively monitored but remains subject to these Terms.

7.2 Abuse reporting

Any third party may report abusive use of a theid.dev subdomain to: abuse@theid.dev. Reports are handled within a maximum of 24 business hours.

7.3 Suspension procedure

In case of a confirmed or reported breach:

theid.dev notifies the User by email of the identified breach
The User has 24 hours to provide an explanation or remove the disputed content
In case of immediate danger (phishing, malware, serious illegal content), suspension is immediate and without notice
After suspension, the User may contest the decision within 7 days

7.4 Applicable sanctions

Depending on the severity of the breach, theid.dev may apply:

Written warning
Temporary suspension of the subdomain (content hidden)
Permanent account termination without refund
Release of the subdomain (the name becomes available again)
Reporting to the competent authorities in case of a criminal offense

Article 8 — Service availability and data backups

theid.dev is committed to providing a reliable, quality service to its paying Users and to keeping it available to the best of its ability. While no specific uptime percentage is contractually guaranteed and the service is provided "as is", the Operator genuinely strives to minimize interruptions and to resolve incidents promptly.

To guard against data loss, theid.dev performs regular backups of User data. These backups significantly reduce the risk of loss but do not constitute an absolute guarantee; Users remain responsible for keeping their own copies of critical content.

theid.dev cannot be held responsible for interruptions caused by Cloudflare, Poste.io, or any other third-party provider, nor for events of force majeure.

Article 9 — Intellectual property

The User retains full ownership of the content they publish or store via theid.dev. They grant theid.dev a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, reproduce, and serve this content strictly for the purpose of providing the service.

The theid.dev name, logo, and platform content are the property of Nathan GNANKADJA and may not be reproduced without prior written authorization.

Article 10 — Personal data

Personal data collected at sign-up (name, email, GitHub username, payment details) is processed in accordance with the theid.dev Privacy Policy, available at theid.dev/privacy.

Data is used exclusively for account management, billing, and service-related communications. It is never sold to third parties. The User has a right of access, rectification, and deletion of their data by contacting privacy@theid.dev.

Article 11 — Termination

11.1 Termination by the User

The User may terminate their account at any time from their dashboard. Termination takes effect on the expiry date of the current subscription. No prorated refund is granted.

11.2 Termination by theid.dev

theid.dev may terminate an account for breach of these Terms, without refund. In case of termination for business reasons (service shutdown), a 60-day notice is given and a prorated refund is issued.

Article 12 — Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of Benin and the OHADA legal framework.

For Users located in the European Union, theid.dev complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) regarding the processing of their personal data, as detailed in the Privacy Policy. Nothing in these Terms deprives EU-resident Users of the mandatory protections of their local consumer and data-protection law.

In case of dispute, the User and theid.dev agree to seek an amicable solution within 30 days. Failing that, the dispute is submitted to the competent courts of Cotonou, Benin.

Article 13 — Changes to the Terms

theid.dev reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. The User is notified by email at least 15 days before new conditions take effect. Continued use of the service after this period constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
